DISEASES EXPLAINED™ was first published in the UK by Livingstone Medical in 1996 - as a part-work - before being formerly launched in 1999, at The Frankfurt Book Fair, as a series.
In 2000 the publishing operation moved to the USA, and began a partnership with Case Western Reserve University Teaching Hospital, Department of Family Practice.
In 2003, the reference book, 'A Patient guide to Diseases & Conditions' was first published. Between 2001-2006 the series was approved by the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation (AAFPF), and recognised by the US Health Improvement Institute (HII).
In 2006, the publishing operation returned to the UK, to began an association with Coventry University's new Health Design & Technology Institute (HDTI). In 2008 Livingstone Medical formed a new partnership with the UK Family Doctor Association (FDA).
In 2011, the company were certified by the Department of Health's Information Standard.
The series is currently available in over 60 countries.
DISEASES EXPLAINED™ are research-based products, designed specifically for the consumer and for use at the point of care.
Each title is laid out in an easy-to-follow graphic style, and present a balanced and factual summary of the condition - including causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, self-help and prevention.
All our information is created by qualified medical writers and illustrators, before being tested with patients, carers and medical professionals in a clinical setting.
Only current medical evidence and approved drug treatments are included.

All our products are individually reviewed by doctors and patient support groups (by disease interest) during development, then tested with patients and caregivers in a clinical setting.
Changes to clinical practice, or approved medications, are recorded on file - and updated at next publication.
